Industrial revolution
Yes to functionality. No to embellishment. Yes to natural elements. No to colorful forms. Brutalism is an architectural movement that emerged in the 1950s, in the post-war context. Driven by artists such as Le Corbusier, it appears as a “revolt” against the style in force until then, which favored form over function. Tearing away at this line of thought, brutalism imposes a more practical and minimal sense, where primacy is given to the utilitarian purpose of all the pieces. In times of crisis, it is again the order of the day.
