Almost all great artists share a characteristic, more or less assumed: hedonism. Understood as a philosophical and moral doctrine that makes pleasure a supreme good, hedonism emerged in Ancient Greece and sees the satisfaction of one’s desires as the purpose of human life. Leopoldo Pomés, photographer, publicist, filmmaker, and restorer, one of the greatest names of Spanish photography in the last century, was a self-confessed hedonist. Born in Barcelona (1931), he was known for being an appreciator of looks and a lover of women, food and... shoes. Throughout a long and successful career — which includes, among others, the National Photography Award — he proved to be a fan of the constant search for beauty and sensuality, which he sought in every moment of his work. Reason enough for his studio-house in the capital of Catalonia to be chosen as the stage for Kave Home's new collection, A View of Hedonism.

Here one breathes art. The living room, once the photographer's studio, is the main room of the house — a room with straight lines, which contrasts with the elegant and curvilinear forms of the furniture, such as the Karin sofa, named after Pomés' wife, or any of the elements of the Licia collection, made up of solid sustainable mango wood pieces, handcrafted to create rounded shapes. It is from the living room that two large shutters open onto the Italian-inspired courtyard, envisioned by architect Oscar Tusquets in the 1980s, when the house underwent a renovation process. The arches, columns, and balusters create an intense visual depth that matches the blue and ochre color palette. It is in this space that the Comova collection, designed for outdoors and ideal for all seasons, is inserted.

This is not just any house. It is a house with history, which breathes memories and multiplies itself in unusual details. Located in the Gràcia neighborhood, one of the city’s most bohemian, it served as a studio, place of refuge and source of inspiration for Leopoldo Pomés, who settled there in the 1970s — but many years before, it belonged to Modest Urgell I Inglada, known as Katúfol, a renowned Spanish painter, landscape architect and writer born in the 19th century. His paintings were acquired years later by Pomés, and some works of art as well as furniture are still part of the house, giving it even more character.

Kave Home, whose mission is to revolutionize furniture, design and décor by developing differentiated and quality products — not forgetting the commitment to sustainability — has taken this Barcelona landmark and opened its doors to the world, so that the contemplation of Pomés hedonism can be an inspiration for the cold season to come.
