When it was created, in the 2nd century BC, Venus de Milo represented the ideal of feminine beauty (had it not been inspired by the goddess Aphrodite).
Today, for that to be true, we would say that she lacks - at the very least - a diamond bracelet. What's the point of forging canons of beauty on bodies devoid of sparkle? Once frozen marble figures, these celestial statues come to life with ornaments that complement any look. Even Michelangelo's David is envious.
