The Fame Issue
What happens backstage at Vogue, doesn't stay backstage at Vogue.
Here's your all access pass to the October 2023 issue.
Las Vogues
What happens at Vogue Iconic Party, doesn't stay at Vogue Iconic Party... not even behind the scenes: it took about 5 long nights to ensure the setup of the venue, a copious amount of coffees, intense laughter, some tears (of effort and joy ) and, above all, an unforeseen team building that built that small town in Doca de Pedrouços. One whose workforce is not limited to the Lighthouse Publishing editorial team: three of the highlights of the night were provided by music artists Milhanas, Mayra Andrade and Giulia Be, who in a short but imposing showcase, filled the venue with sing-a-longs. From the first note, each of them, in their own way, stopped being guests and became family. Take a look at the before and during in the Vogue Iconic Party Special on page 132.
Getting ready: Vogue Iconic Party
The looks were also iconic: like the one of Vogue Portugal’s editor in chief, Sofia Lucas, who matched the Bulgari necklace and Yves Saint Laurent shoes with a versatile Juliana Herc dress with a collar that, like the Vogue Iconic Party, had different layouts throughout the night. Custom-made for Lucas, Herc shared with Vogue the sketch that resulted in the final look and which promises to be as legendary as the night for which it was imagined. PS: the unmistakable wardrobe that graced the black carpet does not end with our editor in chief - in fact, the Sparkling City Night that the dress code dictated called for nothing less than a parade of pieces worthy of applause. But to get there, there is the getting ready - like that of Isabela Valadeiro, Maria Dominguez, Conguito, Carina Caldeira, Tomás Taborda and Vasco Pereira Coutinho, whose preparation for the emblematic night can be seen on Vogue.pt.
Augmented Georgina
Did you know that this cover with Gio Rodriguez comes to life? At Lighthouse Publishing, we see paper as essential and limitless, as much as we value the importance of digital, so we balance the two with creativity that makes the final product somewhat different. It’s in the symbiosis of the two - print and online - that magic is created just a click (or a touchscreen) away: download the free Lighthouse Publishing AR app using the QR Code, open the application, follow the instructions and point your smartphone to this magazine cover to see the extra content by Georgina Rodriguez that we have prepared for you.
Gio & Co
Behind a great woman, there is also a world of connections, especially if that woman is Georgina, whose meeting point at the venue in Madrid moved more than a team from Vogue, from Lisbon, and a Gio, from Riyadh, plus glam team, from Madrid: it also moved a Netflix crew, who took advantage of the moment as essential content for their documentary; it moved her children, who were present throughout the set, always as her biggest fans, and even moved Cristiano Ronaldo who briefly passed by the place for that unconditional support - we don't have photographs of the moment, but we guarantee that it's not a rumor or hear-say. For other behind-the-scenes images, we have a must-see gallery at Vogue.pt.
Happy Birthday, Vogue!
It was a birthday party with more glamour than your average one, but a birthday party nonetheless. And any self-respecting birthday party has cake, in this case, with the same glamour. One wouldn't expect anything else, from five Vogue covers styled by the Hotel Hotel's pastry chef, Kozue Morimoto, who took our passion for print literally and turned the pleasure of reading into the pleasure of tasting.
Don't you know who I am?
It may be the kick-off to spend the day humming the theme Fame (1980), by Irene Cara, but it fits like a glove as a cover song for this issue titled “Fame”. The phrase that crosses these covers and the personalities that serve as its face reflect the idea of this recognition that seems to last forever (“I'm gonna live forever, baby, remember my name”), at the same time that it encapsulates the idea of a underlying difficulty, in verses like “Baby, I'll be tough” or “Ooh, I got what it takes”, which you have to overcome to reach the top. In this issue, we also feel that fame is just the wrapper for the hard work behind each magazine and each event and each content. Applause is given to what is seen, but there is a hug and a pat on the back that is invisible to the public, followers and fans for the dedication that’s not shown to the naked eye. Kind of like Fame - “you haven’t seen the best of me yet” -, the best of this issue is yet to come, with each page turn.
