Present in the defining moments of life, Montblanc's Meisterstück writing instrument represents much more than just a pen. To celebrate its centenary, Celia González Cruza (general manager in Spain and Portugal) talks about the journey of the prestigious German brand over the years.
With an exceptional history that surpasses fleeting trends, Montblanc stands out as an unrivalled name among history's most iconic legacies. Its collections reflect a unique savoir-faire, with several Montblanc signature objects whose reputation endures over time by defining themselves as true testimonies to their era. Such is the case with the Meisterstück, first launched in 1924, which quickly became synonymous with the German house. "Our DNA is writing, but we take it much further. Writing is our inspiration, and it's what sets us apart from other brands," reveals González. This year marks the 100th anniversary of this "essential writing instrument [...] (which) has left an indelible mark since its launch in 1924, having been used by many influential people who have shaped our culture and history". Over the years, one of the maison's most recognisable products, with its distinctive black cigar-shaped design, three golden rings and handmade nib, "it has become a tireless travel companion."
One hundred years after its debut, the iconic writing instrument returns to the spotlight with the "prominence it deserves [...] in a totally surprising and unexpected way," says the director. In a collaboration with the film director and screenwriter Wes Anderson, who invites viewers to embark on a true journey through the Montblanc universe, the instrument is celebrated "through its unique narrative and unmistakable visual identity". "A completely new way of presenting our Maison," reveals González.
Without ever abandoning its legacy, the brand has continued, over the decades, to transmit its characteristic values and design through new collections. "Montblanc is differentiated by its own legacy, because we are constantly adapting our brand and our products, without betraying our DNA or the essence of it, following very strict timeless codes and only paying attention to our own history." Thus, in an increasingly digital world, the German house is committed to preserving and promoting the art of writing, says the director, "Montblanc wants to inspire people to write by providing instruments that leave their own mark." More than just a writing instrument, the Meisterstück is a unique object that transcends its craft and becomes an eternal companion for life.
