The revolution reads

Activist Toni Bambara said that "the artist's job is to make the revolution irresistible." In the case of the following books, this principle is, literally, illustrated.

The revolution is seen

The revolution is made in the street, but its documentation happens in museums. We have gathered some of the exhibitions that, a little bit all over Europe, remind us that besides living in a revolution, it is necessary to learn it.

1997 Fashion Big BangThis season, at the Palais Galliera, in Paris, we take a trip to one of the most significant years in modern fashion. 1997 Fashion Big Bang shows us not only the peak creativity of the 90s but also what turned out to be the industry standard in the new millennium. Significant collections, the emergence of new designers, and even unexpected deaths marked that memorable year.Palais Galliera, Paris. Until July 16.

Plastics: Rebuilding Our WorldAiming to take an objective look at the place of plastic in contemporary societies, Plastic: Rebuilding Our World traces the history of today's most controversial material. From its revolutionary invention to the dethronement of its omnipresence and the presentation of more environmentally friendly alternatives, the exhibition unites three international museums, curated by Anniina Koivu in Lisbon.MAAT, Lisbon. Until September 28th.

TartanTartan is one of fashion's most worn patterns, but behind its popularity hides a history of provocative design. The exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Dundee explores its origins, symbolism, and role in the fashion industry. With all its historical and cultural context, Tartan explores the identity of a pattern that, through the ordering of lines, has become a universal symbol of revolution. Until next January, the walls of the Scottish museum are filled with tartan.Victoria & Albert Dundee, Scotland. Until January 14, 2024.

Marcelo Brodsky. Resistencia Poética.Marcelo Brodsky is one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. With a strong inspiration from the human rights struggles in Argentina, Brodsky's art establishes itself as part of the legacy of revolutionary art. Brodsky's work remains relevant as new social movements develop. An impressive portion of his portfolio is on display here.La Fundación Foto Colectania, Barcelona. Until May 28.

Crown to CoutureKensington Palace becomes the starting point of a curious journey into the world of Fashion. The Crown to Couture exhibition offers the opportunity to understand the extravagant dresses present on the red carpets of the present in the context of the English royal court of the 18th century. Dresses by Lady Gaga, Lizzo, and Billy Porter give the place the status of an epicenter of Fashion design.Kensington Palace, London. April 5 through October 29.

Women in revolt! The latest exhibition at Tate Britain in London is an ode to the connection between the feminist movement and artistic practices. More than a curation of art made by women, Women in revolt! explores the feminine as revolutionary. With pieces by over one hundred artists spanning the period between 1970 and 1990, the exhibition is a reflection of the cultural, social, and political changes of the 20th century. Tate Britain, London. November 8 through April 7, 2024.
