The Coming Back Issue

... and I'll tell you what you do for a living. Or at least I'll try. The day of a model is not the same as that of an actress and she, in turn, will occupy her twenty-four hours very differently from a communications director, an influencer or a buyer. If you've always wanted to know how other people's habits differ from your own, take advantage of this rentrée to take notes.

Othilia Simon

She's one of the stars of Vogue Portugal's September issue, so it made perfect sense to ask Othilia Simon what her day-to-day life is like. The French model, one of the most successful of her generation, accumulates covers, fashion shows and campaigns, but it's her unpredictable daily life (apart from her to-do lists, which she can't live without), which can be spent anywhere in the world, that brings us here.

What wakes you up in the morning? My alarm unfortunately. I wish I could say the birds.

At what time? Half past eight, nine if I'm not working.

What’s the very first thing you do when you wake up? I like a glass of water.

Do you normally bounce out of bed or do you need to be dragged from the sheets? I need to be dragged from the sheets.

What is the first thing you do? Check my phone, you never know maybe you have a nice message in the morning and go for breakfast, I like to eat in pajamas before I put on my clothes for the day.

How do you set the mood for the day? I am a to-do list person, I like to have things I have to do written so I like to check what is in the list and go for what I want to do first, depending on the mood.

Do you have a long beauty routine? Not at all, I have a good skin fortunately, I don’t like to use too much on my face, and especially if I have to go on set. Time in the bathroom is the quickest part of my morning. It’s usually just clean the face and moisturize, brush my teeth and perfume of course.

How do you choose what to wear? I usually have one item in mind that I want to wear, and start from there, It could be a bag, a piece of jewelry or a specific t-shirt etc., but I can spend time on building the outfit just because there is this exact item I want to wear today, sometimes it goes smoothly, but sometimes it’s a nightmare because I am really stubborn and have to find the right outfit for that specific item.

Do you have it planned the night before? If I have a job, a travel day, or an important meeting, I will think about it the night before but it’s not completed before going to bed. I just process the weather, where I am going to shoot, more practical issues.

How is your typical working day? I wake up, have breakfast, go to set, and then let the day goes on its own, in my work it’s not me who manages the tempo of the day, but I like that. Then go home and relax.

At what time to you return home? It depends on how long the shooting takes, but rarely before eight pm.

What is the first thing you do when back home? Lay down.

How is your dinner time? I love a good meal, I enjoy that time of the day.

Do you like to have dinner in silence, in front of the TV, with talking with friends or family…? Company is always better, if I’m away I would call or text family or friends while eating, but sometimes a good TV show is too good not to watch while eating, so you can watch more episode before sleeping.

What time do you usually go to bed? Around midnight.
