Simple only in appearance, the folding chair is the result of a design that combines functionality with elegance. In a reinterpretation of the classic director's chair, the Italian brand Flexform, together with designer Antonio Citterio, present their latest creation, the Luchino chair.

There are certain objects that become familiar in our daily lives. We recognise their classic silhouettes in various scenarios and, although we may not know their exact origin, we are aware of their functions without ever being surprised by their presence. These are the same ones that, in constant evolution, transcend time and trends and come to signify something greater, a milestone in culture and design. This is the case of the folding chair, an object of indisputable functionality that attests to a modern and innovative design that continues to inspire new creations and reinterpretations of it.

Encompassing more than a thousand years of history, the iconic folding chair is a piece of furniture that constantly redefines the meaning of design and explores the immense possibilities and forms it can take. Originally used as a field chair due to its easy mobility, it was then in the world of Cinema that it achieved its star status, as the director's chair, and finally established itself in the vernacular of design. Today, it's not just a symbol of the seventh art, it's an impeccable presence that continues to honour its immense legacy, while inspiring new creations.

With its main qualities eternalised - comfort, lightweight and easy to carry - now comes the Luchino chair, a creation between Flexform and Antonio Citterio that cherishes the timeless design of the piece while reimagining its most recognisable functions. As a starting point, Citterio reveals his inspirations: "Lightweight and practical, the folding chair has long been the subject of research and innovation; for example, I’m fascinated by the manufacturing simplicity found in some of the early post-war folding chairs." A harmonious marriage between elegance and practicality, the Luchino chair reveals sophisticated craftsmanship in solid hand-turned wood and leather, with a meticulous system of joints that allow it to be closed and transported quickly. In a combination of features that unites modernity with tradition, the new interpretation recognises the rich design heritage of the acclaimed folding chair, while at the same time evoking a new contemporary sensibility.

Without ever forgetting the inexhaustible commitment at every stage of the process, in which there is a person, with their eyes and hands in a calculated gesture, Luchino turns attention to detail and the integrity of the materials inherent in the design of the piece. With a focus on Italian craftsmanship, without compromising its unique aesthetic, in a reinterpretation of the timeless folding chair, Luchino redefines the essence of design.
