What happens in The Memories Issue, doesn't stay in The Memories Issue. Here's your all access pass to April 2024.

50 years of April 25th

“Carnation on the skin”, on page 160, highlights in an image, which mixes message and fashion, the setting of an event to always remember – the carnations, the tanks and the crowd in the street, the 25th of April 1974. With set design by Mafalda Matos, the list of elements was thought of exactly as something fragmented that is unified and conquered on the 25th: the carnation cut into its petals and materialized in triangular and quadrangular modules, as delicate as the fragility of being free and as strong as the union that guides them, represents the audacity of the flower that has become a symbol of change and freedom. In addition to this element, the tubular pieces pinpoint the rigidity of the moment, the industrial tanks present on the day and the manifestation of the harsh and long-awaited change of regime, and the choice of silver interconnects with metal as war material of the revolution, which is also in the gloves that hold the carnations. Glitch in the Matrix?

Have you ever wondered why it sometimes feels like you are repeating a memory? What happens with the feeling of déjá-vu has to do with the various types of memory in our brain: immediate, which stores super-short-term details (such as a telephone number); short-term, which lasts a few hours or days, but which can be consolidated; and long-term memory, which lasts months or even years (as when learning a foreign language). In déjá-vu, a brain failure occurs: what is happening at the moment is stored directly in long- or medium-term memory, without going through immediate memory, which gives the sensation of it having already happened.
