She never went unnoticed - as a woman, as an artist, and as an activist - even if inadvertently. It's not just because of her revolutionary nature that Intimissimi chose Jennifer Lopez as an ambassador. But definitely also for it.
She never went unnoticed - as a woman, as an artist, and as an activist - even if inadvertently. It's not just because of her revolutionary nature that Intimissimi chose Jennifer Lopez as an ambassador. But definitely also for it.

It's not just because of the catchy beat that Jenny from the Block has become one of the Latin singer's best-known hits. Autobiographical to an extent, the song shows the evolution of a woman from humble origins who becomes one of the most influential artists in the United States, breaking barriers and records alike throughout her rise - not only her own, but also those of a minority thirsty for voice. Daughter of Puerto Rican parents, but born in New York, it was in the Bronx that Lopez grew up, knowing firsthand the difficulties and hardships inherent in social housing. All the conquests that followed came, therefore, from an underprivileged starting point and far from a facilitated network, which only makes them more notable. Considered the most influential Hispanic artist in America (in 2018, Time listed her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, after, in 2012, Forbes had classified her as the most powerful Latino celebrity in the world), what she has done for the Hispanic community in the entertainment industry has been revolutionary. The steps were taken early and safely: she began as an actress, immediately boosted by her starring role in Selena (1997), which earned her the feat of being the first Hispanic actress to earn more than a million dollars for a film, later adding Anaconda (1997) and Out of Sight (1998), to also establish herself as the highest paid Latin actress in Hollywood.
Films continued to follow, with even more impressive success due to the fact that she juggled this career with an equally or more popular musical career: when, in 1999, she released On the 6, her first album of originals, announcing this desire to establish herself musically, the decision made headlines -“Actress Jennifer Lopez wants to have a career in music”, summing up the headlines of the time, but what could be read between the lines was the audacity of someone being so ambitious as to want to juggle with such demanding and difficult métiers. Lopez was. And she did it in an irreproachable way: she balanced cinema and concerts so that one career wouldn’t overwhelm the other and, in between, she even launched an empire of clothing, beauty, production, dance, in short, a multiplicity of roles that, even today, in a world made of multifaceted professions, should be applauded. It was the 90s, we were far from calling someone an influencer for having a foothold in all aspects of the arts (in these days, accumulating talent seems not only natural, but mandatory), and Lopez showed that being whatever you want, all at the same time and successfully, was possible. She didn't do just for herself: the ripple effect of her music debut meant a Latino explosion in entertainment at the time, she was "crossover royalty", as the Daily Herald described her - indeed, "there is no record in modern Latin history without Jennifer Lopez”, said the publication Latina, in 2011. An influence that goes well beyond the arts: her power is such that, when a new marine mite was discovered in Puerto Rico, in 2014, the responsible scientists named it Litarachna Lopezae, in honor of Lopez. It sounds like a micro-tribute, it's true, but how many of us can boast of such a sphere of influence that it breaks the boundaries of entertainment to spill over into Science?
It’s not only on the CV that her magnitude is felt: her feminine and curvy figure has expanded the canons of Beauty to embrace silhouettes that are not standardized by contemporary society - and to do so with pride. Her derrière may have inspired countless punchlines about the artist, but it doubled the self-esteem of the female population, breaking shape stereotypes. Now 53, she continues to dissolve taboos as the face of lingerie brand Intimissimi's latest campaign. In a true tribute to the idea that Beauty has no age, the worldwide female icon is the new global ambassador for the Italian brand. The bet reflects the brand's purpose of celebrating women, encouraging them to feel confident and valued in all the roles they play and this Jenny from the Block couldn't be a better poster girl for that, perfectly communicating the core values of the house. Such an appropriate choice could not be less disruptive. Also because it doesn't need to be - the brand and the artist bring enough revolution in what they represent in themselves.
