The Fame Issue
She is the Spanish woman with the most followers on Instagram, the one everyone knows by her first name, in Madrid or anywhere else on the planet. Her influence has long since transcended the boundaries of the virtual world, and today extends to fashion, advertising, television, philanthropy... and any area where it makes sense to dedicate her (precious) time. A fighter by nature, she ensures that she is a mother above all else, but there is one role that no one can take away from her: Georgina Rodríguez, superstar.
"I love princess stories and, in fact, my biggest pastime when I was little was watching all the Disney movies. Nowadays, I consider myself to have the life of a princess, not only because of all the luxury that surrounds me, but also because of the people around me, the all-important bonds that I've been able to create throughout my life, my work, my professional career and, of course, the beautiful family I've created - which is a dream - and which is what I've always dreamed of." As is well known, Georgina Rodríguez's "princess life" (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1994) didn't start early. Quite the opposite, in fact. Her happy but difficult childhood has been told more than once by herself. Her move to Jaca (Spain) was also covered in detail, as well as her studies, the difficulties of reconciling them with her first jobs, her passion for dance (in this regard, she will say: "The discipline, dedication and effort required to practice a sport, especially ballet, helped me from a young age to develop not only physical abilities, but also to maintain a mental stability with which I achieved balance in all aspects of my life"), and her move to Madrid. Apparently, Georgina Rodríguez's biography is public knowledge, so much so that there is debate about where she goes and what she wears, what she posts on social media and what she chooses not to post, the (few) statements she makes on red carpets and the sudden appearances in which, it is said, she only seems to want to "show off."
Georgina Rodríguez is an abnormal case of popularity. At the time of going to press, she had 52 million followers on Instagram. When you search for her name on Google, the results skyrocket: 13 million and, just over twenty minutes later, 17.9 million. We find it hard to believe that, as many insist, this is just because she's dating one of the best footballers of all time, and one of our national heroes, Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite the obvious impact that her relationship with the sportsman may have had at first - after all, he was the GOAT, the winner of several awards, and she was a "mere anonymous" - Georgina knew how to reinvent herself and step out of her partner's shadow. She didn't let herself be fooled by the spotlight, by the crowds that started calling out for her during half-time matches. She knew that, as well as being there, she could also continue to have a career - built by herself, by her will, her tastes, her ambition. Everything we see now, the jewels, the private planes, the dinners with the "Queridas", is the fruit of an extraordinary perseverance.
The jovial, almost innocent way she shows off her diamonds worth thousands of euros is proof that the girl from Jaca hasn't completely disappeared. She's still out there, walking around in tracksuits and rubies, with bags worth a car, reveling in the possibility of having (a lot of) money. And sharing that wealth with those close to her, and with those who need it most. Her friends go yachting with her, but they also accompany her on less glamorous missions, such as her charity work, which she tries not to publicize. They are there every moment of her life. "Having a group of friends who are practically family, who take care of you and are always by your side, is one of the foundations of a happy and complete life that influences success in any area." Georgina is deeply grateful for her "princess life." Her joy, her victories, are distributed among her entourage, where her children stand out. "I can't be more grateful to life for all the successes I'm experiencing, I've fulfilled many dreams and I continue to enjoy every moment that fate throws at me, just like on the first day. I'm looking forward to working and continuing to surprise you with new projects full of illusion and effort."
As well as being the face of several brands, Georgina Rodríguez has a reality show with Netflix, Soy Georgina, which is now heading into its third season. And which is a worldwide success. "I'm very grateful for the great reception the reality show has had, having the pleasure of working side by side with Netflix is a source of pride, and the great success the series is having is largely due to the fact that we are surrounded by a wonderful, professional and human team with whom we work with great effort and dedication." Watching the series, you realize that Georgina is a role model for millions of people, and that comes with a certain responsibility. What values would she like to pass on to her followers? "That they fight for their dreams, that they don't let themselves be influenced by the opinions of others, and that they know that, with effort and optimism in the face of adversity, they can achieve anything they want." Adversity: another way of saying "criticism." Rodríguez is more than used to it. Whatever she does, there will always be someone who is unhappy with her actions and choices. "Criticism is always present in any area and it's important to be self-critical and improve, but you can’t never let it affect your life because most people don't know you and you can't let them control your emotions. Life puts experiences in our path and we learn to put things into perspective and not give importance to other people's opinions." Fame, that heavy word whose distorted notion can define an entire career, is also an integral part of her daily life - but only to a certain extent. "Fame means nothing to me these days because I'm still the same person I've always been, and I have my lifelong friends. The only thing is that it can limit you a bit more. But well, I go everywhere normally and that's also what I try to instill in my children. I like being in parks with children, with moms, on soccer fields watching my boyfriend play... Fame hasn't stopped me, and it motivates me to work hard and excel every day and to be grateful, because the truth is that I'm very lucky. At the same time, it's something that's already established in our lives and we live with it every day and try to manage it as best we can, always grateful to the public for all the love and support they give us."
At the beginning of this year, Georgina and Cristiano moved to Riyadh. Her day-to-day life, and that of her family, is now completely different. She now manages her career from the other side of the world. "Whenever we move to any country we look for the same thing, our daily and family routine, taking the children to school, their extracurricular activities, sport, and above all, trying to spend quality time with our family and friends. These are the everyday and fundamental things that always accompany us, wherever we go. And although it's tiring to be constantly traveling for work, going from one continent to another, I'm aware of how lucky I am in my professional career to be able to visit wonderful and artistic places." Interestingly, one of the things she mentions in Soy Georgina is that the key to success is "to work with enthusiasm." Does she ever get tired? She’s a mother, a wife, a model, an entrepreneur... With such a busy life, when does she find time for herself? "I suppose, like all working mothers and fathers, it's sometimes very difficult to juggle everything, we don't always have the energy or the possibility to find time for ourselves, but it's very important to set aside a minimum amount of time for ourselves, to pamper ourselves, recharge our energies and be able to face the day to day. I'm a very organized person, so I always manage to get everything done. I work out, I really like working on my body, because my mind feels different. I'd rather spend an hour in the gym, or whatever free time I have after eating, than on the sofa. I'd rather train to renew my energy and go to sleep with a clear conscience that I've given my best. But there are also days when my body needs to stop. But well, how do I manage to get everything done? By being organized and knowing that my priority is my children, and that my schedule revolves around them and my partner." Being a mother has changed her life. Completely. Georgina may be on a red carpet in Cannes or Venice, her children will always be her concern. "My absolute priority is them, and my mind is always alert, even if I'm working in the middle of a photo shoot, traveling... I always have to know that they're okay at all times. They are my greatest gift in this life and the purest love there is." Looking back, there are many things the little girl who dreamed of being a ballerina should be proud of. If she could tell 15-year-old Georgina anything, what would she tell her? "To enjoy the little things that life has to offer, to keep working and fighting with the love and enthusiasm with which you do everything, because life has very special things in store for you."
