The Kitsch Issue

What happens backstage, doesn't stay backstage at Vogue Portugal.

Here's your all access pass to our February 2024 issue.

Kitsch in special edition

World famous, Pierre and Gilles have been working together since 1976, combining painting and photography. Their paintings feature loved ones, anonymous or famous, in sophisticated environments built life-size in their studio. After being captured by Pierre, the photograph is printed on a canvas on which Gilles carries out meticulous painting work. This painted canvas will be an original and unique work. These image makers created a unique iconography, exploring the border between art history and popular culture - a portfolio that Vogue has already presented in The Fame Issue (available at shop.light-house.pt). Now, the duo adds this special and exclusive cover for Vogue Portugal to that CV.

Kitsch in motion

This magazine is not static: throughout the pages, you will find QR Codes - the “barcode” that is both trendy and vintage - that allow you to access English versions of the articles (do share it with your friends who don't speak Portuguese), but also fashion films from the editorials. A practice that is repeated from issue to issue and which in this one is found in the stories of page 126, 24Kitsch’Inn and of page 142, Pattern Math. The perfect match between print and digital, between past and future, between retro and avant-garde.

Translated from the original in The Kitsch Issue, published February 2024. Full stories and credits in the print version.
