 A party is a party

Did you know that… the term “party” was used for the first time in the early 18th century, when peoples started to call social events and celebratory gatherings as such? The most recent centuries ensured that cyberspace had more fun facts linked to the idea of partying, such as:- 40% of guests at a party will snoop the bathroom cabinets, according to the book Are you normal;– the Greeks are responsible for having candles on cakes birthday, because they wanted to have a light effect on their moon-shaped cakes, offerings to Artemis (goddess of wildlife and hunting, afterwards also associated with the moon and magic);– in Ancient Rome, only men could celebrate their birthday, a custom that lasted until the 12th century;– it is women, particularly moms, who plan most celebrations from start to finish.

PS: A party is a party and there ain't no party without Lili Caneças. More to see and read in Lili? Oui, c'est moi!, on page 192.

Celebrating our partners

A party cannot be accomplished without a good dancefloor and the truth is that there are spots to which we always want to return to. In an issue dedicated to celebration, it makes sense to applaud the partners who are always willing to contribute so that our productions have the best backgrounds. One that we repeatedly revisit is Garagem Lisboa, location for a handful of productions, such as Blue is the Warmest Colour, from March 2020 (pictured), or Red, White & Grinch, from December 2019, which combines the pragmatism of a studio (250m2 of open industrial space with a ceiling height of 6m) to the versatility of a well located space with a privileged view over the Tagus River (near the National Museum of Ancient Art). Which makes this Garage in the heart of Lisbon not only a lavish stage for production, but a lavish stage for any celebration. More information at garagemlisboa.com.

Three torn tigers

Actually, just the one and a very happy beast: as we were closing this issue, the world celebrated entering a a new Chinese year, the Year of the Tiger, which is celebrated on February 1st, 2022 and succeeds the year of the Ox (2021). Know that people born in the year of the Tiger are enthusiastic and ambitious, bold and courageous, vigorous and generous, confident and with a sense of justice and commitment to helping others. Which is everything we hope this year will be.
