The Big Book of Trends
It's lucky to be able to be ladylike and disruptive at the same time - and all with a little help from the new season.
The ladylike lines have been revived for the cold season, but not without the irreverence that can be seen in their shapes and materials. Whether it's the use of transparencies, new lengths, such as longer, flowing and stripped skirts, or even design details that break away from the structured and polished silhouette of yesteryear, the traditional figure of a lady constrained by her class, rather than liberated by it, is rewritten in a narrative for the fall-winter season that maintains the elegance of this proper look, but blurs its conservatism. With XL knitwear and bohemian glitter, where before there was only office wear and aristocratic silk, or with flats where before there was a request for stilettos, the connotation of seriousness is suspended from a trend that, even with these subversions, never loses its sophistication.
