Red lipstick is to make-up as the little black dress is to fashion: a must-have in any collection, standing the test of time and it never losing its status. We're passionate about this inescapable classic, but this time we went to test out the new red Pantones that are transforming the beauty industry.

Rosso Valentino Satiné lipstick, in shade 22R, €44.99, Valentino, at Sephora.pt.

Promises: with just one swipe, to be an ultra-pigmented lipstick with a vibrant colour and satin finish. Vogue's word: The love story between Valentino and its timeless Rosso is legendary and has been honoured precisely in the new (and very exciting) make-up line, which features a variety of red shades. With such a powerful legacy, we knew we could expect the best from this lipstick, and our expectations were confirmed: a rich red tone with a hint of cool pink creates an irresistible effect on the lips, further enhanced by the satin finish, which makes them shine. The formula incorporates a new patented technology that ultimately makes it feel like a liquid lipstick and, as it is infused with 70% moisturising ingredients, it gives this Rosso red extra comfort.

Monochrome Hyper Matte Lipstick, in the shade B06 Dragon, € 48, Prada.

Promises: 12 hours of intense colour, with a matte finish that also leaves lips feeling light. Vogue's word: Prada's long-awaited arrival in the make-up industry was a success, and the Monochrome Hyper Matte lipsticks are just one of the house's great successes. Filled with allusions to fashion - from the famous triangle adorning the packaging to the texture of the lipstick reminiscent of Saffiano skin - this is not just a great lipstick, but an object that we want to carry with us at all times (preferably in a Prada bag). The product guarantees easy application thanks to its shape and includes jojoba oil (which makes it more comfortable), melting on contact with the lips without losing its extremely high pigmentation. In a dazzling red that's slightly closer to a terracotta colour, it's ideal for those who are still slightly intimidated by pure scarlet.

MatteTrance lipstick in Rouge 8, €45.99, Pat McGrath, at Sephora.pt.

Promises: to be a super-pigmented lipstick with a matte finish. Vogue's word: Pat McGrath has been enjoying a period of (even greater) popularity as she was responsible for the make-up for the Maison Margiela Artisanal summer 2024 fashion show. With a successful career - after all, she is the first make-up artist to become a Dame of the Order of the British Empire - she is one of the great references in the beauty world. So it's no surprise to say that everything about MatteTrance lipstick is precious: from the packaging to the pigmentation. The lipstick is also very long-lasting and does not dry out the lips, providing a deep shade of red that is both highly comfortable and easy to apply. The Dame's masterpiece has just one flaw: it's limited edition. We suggest that, if you try it, be prudent and buy it in bulk.

Dramalips Glassy lipstick, in shade 636, €33.99, Rabanne.

Promises: a glassy, ultra-pigmented finish in just one stroke, lasting up to 12 hours. Vogue's word: we knew that when Rabanne announced the launch of its beauty line, it was destined to be a hit. Taking inspiration from fashion to bring vibrant and impactful make-up products to life, Rabanne's metallic legacy is now materialised in this lipstick that promises to become as essential as the Spanish designer was to the fashion industry. Undeniably pigmented and with a rich scarlet hue, Dramalips Glassy is one of today's best lipsticks, with the potential to replace even those we would think have a permanent place in our make-up bag. Extra points for being infused with pomegranate and hyaluronic acid, providing immediate moisturisation. Oh, did we mention it's also vegan?
