There are personalities who are worthy of a Vogue cover. But Vogue covers are worthy of an art gallery.

We've paid tribute by doubling up on the artistic approach, in this editorial that takes as its inspiration some of the most iconic vintage covers (and not only) of the title and puts the creativity of illustration at their service - while bringing them into the 21st century with contemporary make-up references. In this retrospective, it's not just the beauty and mastery of the emblematic images that stands out: it's also their power to, decades later, continue to serve as testimony to an era, mirroring its trends in a single layout, referencing its most striking characters, denouncing its colors, its mood, its avant-garde. The following pages are not just a tribute, nor are they simply an artistic exhibition: they are Fashion History.

Translated from the original in Vogues Portugal’s “The Big Book of Trends” Issue, published September 2024. Full stories and credits in the print issue.
