May this summer be prolific in sunny afternoons, but may the sun be lived with (great) caution.

We all know how to recite the mantra of the harmful consequences of solar radiation, just like we know that there are ways to minimize its consequences. Among the dozens of products on the market, we decided to put to the test some of our protective shields. May this summer be prolific in sunny afternoons, but may the sun be lived with (great) caution.

Promises: to protect against UVA and UVB rays, to be quickly absorbed by the skin and to be waterproof. Vogue’s word: finding this sunscreen in stock was already by itself a hard task, being that since last year it has become a sensation on TikTok. After the expectation that permeated me for months, my experience has been bittersweet. First the positive part: the product is very comfortable when you apply it, leaving a pleasant, yet subtle, scent on your face. But even though I appreciate the radiance it provides after application, after a few hours my skin, already prone to be oily, it feels like it has been dipped in Johnson oil. An unfortunate situation, considering that I like everything about this sunscreen, except for the way it interacts with my skin when the temperatures are higher. Unfortunately I will have to save it until the cold season, when my skin becomes drier and the hydration it provides will be welcome.

Promises: to deeply hydrate and protect the skin, without leaving residues. Vogue’s word: the term “broad spectrum sunscreen” has become a sort of non-negotiable for anyone who, despite loving the sun, worries about its “side effects.” That's why finding a product with that feature is so important - even more so when our skin has spots and freckles, which tend to triple around this time. Biossance developed this sunscreen whose star ingredients (zinc oxide, lily water and squalane derived from sugar cane) are both effective and environmentally friendly. Its texture is very light, almost invisible, which does not hinder significant hydration, even when the skin is so dry that it seems that nothing will work. But it does work.

Promises: to revolutionize the concept of solar protection. Vogue’s word: it is very difficult to point the finger at any product created by Caudalie. This new sunscreen will probably join the already long list of hits, and not by chance. Invisible, sustainable (from ingredients to packaging) and with an ultra-light texture, the new Vinosun Protect has four broad spectrum filters that effectively protect the face and neck from UVA/UVB rays, while offering the most sensitive skin an antioxidant action. What at first seemed to be a problem (the fact that it is unscented) turned out to be one of its best features. Approved? Very much so, also because it is suitable for all skin types (I may have lent it to a friend with oily skin, who confirmed my positive rating).

Promises: an invisible formula that offers ideal protection with a comfortable, dry-touch finish. Vogue’s word: my skincare routine is anything but perfect (which my colleagues never stop reminding me), but my biggest flaw is the inconsistency with which I apply sunscreen. It’s not laziness, it’s simply because I have a hard time finding products that do not aggravate the oiliness of my skin. That's why I was skeptical about this product, but I was positively surprised. Although I don't go the whole day without the characteristic shine of natural oils, the fact is that with this layer of protection I can keep a matified look for many hours.

Mariana Silva, Journalist

Promises: quick absorbing in normal and mixed skin. It provides hydration and a light finishing. Vogue’s word: I use sunscreen daily - rain, shine, or hail storm - so I'm always looking for lightweight options that can blend well into the layers of creams, serums, foundations, primers, and concealers that are part of my morning Beauty routine. Perhaps that's why the name ("light water antiaging veil") caught my attention so much - and it didn't disappoint. This sunscreen looks a lot like a veil. If it weren't for the little white layer that takes a few minutes to fade, I wouldn't even notice it after application. In terms of protection, I admit that I haven't really tested it on a beach afternoon under intense sun, but for daily use, it seems to work perfectly.
