The Mystery Issue

Silhouettes that defy gravity, geometric cut-outs that stay upright, lines that seem to have a life of their own... there are secrets of Haute Couture that we prefer to keep a mystery and leave us only the fortune of being able to admire and enjoy them.

Like the sequin work on a richly embellished dress, or the structure of a jacket that seems to surpass the laws of physics... who sewed on that button, who closed that hem, who created that architecture? Like our own history, the narrative of a Haute Couture garment is a vault of unrevealed secrets. Even when we wear them like the works of art they are and make them our own, one might assume that all their secrets would be revealed. But no: you only create new mysteries for two.

Translated from the original in Vogues Portugal’s “The Mystery Issue” Issue, published October 2024. Full stories and credits in the print issue.
