The Icons Issue
Or Karl. Simply ‘Karl’, that's what the title of this editorial could have been, because the surname Lagerfeld (1933-2019) may have resonance, but it's always just an extra for a first name that has as much impact ond weight as the designer had on the fashion industry.
With an unmistakable aesthetic and signature lines that wrote narratives for his eponymous brand, Chanel and Fendi, in the final stretch of his life, the disappearance of the man did not mean the disappearance of his work. On the contrary: his style endures, as does his unmistakable personal style, with its glasses, structured collar and black and white combination. That's why the following pages could just as easily have no title, because the silhouettes reveal the artist behind the homage. His reputation precedes him, even posthumously. ‘I always knew I was destined for this, that I would be a kind of legend,’ he said. And that's how Karl Lagerfeld's legacy lives on forever.
