The Kitsch Issue

Perhaps kitsch represents different anachronisms depending on the age group of those who approach it, but perhaps there is also a consensus on how the coming into the 2000s brought an amalgam of revivals that confuses and seduces.

The 90s and 80s conspired to create - and bring into the new millennium - a wardrobe made of layering and layers that are authentic odes to different eras, with strong references to the nineties. From grunge and rock’n’roll to the preppy of Clueless (1995), these contrasting influences were incongruously appealing and still captivate those who have experienced them or become aware of them today. Perhaps there is a love-hate affair due to the excessive variety of suggestions. Perhaps there is a sense of nostalgia mixed with regret, in which fondness always speaks louder. Perhaps these were controversial years when it came to style. But this controversy doesn’t prevent a constant return to these emblematic references. Are you ready to go back?
