The Kitsch Issue

Oly Hart, drag queen artist, lends his face and positive attitude to a beauty editorial that explores the spectrum of the most vibrant Pantones.

From golds to greens, from pinks to blues, the face that serves as a blank canvas also serves to convey a message of unity, one in which antagonistic colors mix in a melting pot that appears contrasting, but actually results in a picture of harmonious beauty. After all, isn't it also a kind of symbiotic incongruity that arises, for example, in the mixture of disparate patterns that kitsch is found in? And, by the way, isn't it (or shouldn't it be) like that, too, with Humanity? All different, all equal.

Translated from the original in The Kitsch Issue, published February 2024. Full stories and credits in the print version.
